It's official - the holidays are upon us! It's that time of the year where your waistband tends to fit just a little bit tighter. It's also that time where it's extra important to give a little bit of your time and energy to positively impact your community.
For those of you that are still crafting your Thanksgiving plans, here are a few opportunities to give back to your community in the Bay Area.
Feel a little bit healthier on Thanksgiving by participating in a 5K! On Thanksgiving morning at 8am, there'll be a 5K race that goes along the Embarcadero. Proceeds will benefit the SF-Marin Food Bank and each race participant is asked to bring at least one nonperishable food item.
The Food Bank serves over 225,000 people each year throughout San Francisco and Marin counties and will distribute 47 million pounds of food to the community this year - enough for 107,000 meals every day.

This is San Francisco City Impact's 31st time hosting their Thanksgiving Day Outreach event, which aims to provide 7,000 hot meals to homes, serve 300 sit down dinners, and deliver 500 grocery bags. Volunteers are asked to pay $25, which goes towards all of the food and event costs.
This is another awesome opportunity to help spread some Thanksgiving cheer.
Our partners at the SF Botanical Garden are offering free admission on Thanksgiving Day! This is a great opportunity to get outside and experience the 55 acres that make up the garden, which showcase over 8,000 different kinds of plants from around the world. That's a lot of foliage.
About the gardens: The San Francisco Botanical Garden offers a place where visitors can experience nature, learn more about plants and the environment in an 'outdoor classroom,' and take a break from city life in a beautiful urban sanctuary.
